August 2009 Issue 37
Highlights of this Issue:
- Silver jewellery manufacturing in Thailand: Thailand still takes the lead in global terms when it comes to silver jewellery production. And as the migration to silver continues, spurred not only by the gold prices and lower disposal incomes but also by consumer demand, Thai manufacturers are finding themselves in a very favourable position. We find out why in this special report.
- Highlights from the 2009 GFMS World Silver Survey: Silver jewellery production fell for the 5th consecutive year in 2008, slipping by 3 percent to 158.3 Moz. Losses were greatest for Italy and Thailand as exports were hit by consumption declines in major Western markets. Production in China, India and Russia, on the other hand, rose thanks to robust domestic sales. While the numbers may be grim, the silver jewellery segment was still thought to have fared better than gold jewellery. Here are some highlights from that Survey.
