A total of 51,500 buyers from 155 countries and regions turned out for the 29th edition of the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, a record-smashing haul for the world’s No. 1 jewellery event. The trade show drew a large contingent from Asia with China topping the list (11,483 buyers) followed by India (3,519), the US (2,423), Taiwan (1,846), Japan (1,518), Thailand (1,517), the Philippines (1,087), Korea (977), Indonesia (780), Australia (723) and the Russian Federation (633).
* Suzhou’s booming jewellery market draws retailers

* Suzhou’s booming jewellery market draws retailers
Rising gold, white jade and large-sized diamond jewellery sales in Suzhou City is drawing Chinese jewellery companies to one of Jiangsu Province’s fast-developing cities. Suzhou has outranked the provincial capital of Nanjing to become the biggest jewellery retail market in Jiangsu, thanks to the city’s high per capita income. At present, the city accounts for 18 percent of Jiangsu’s total jewellery retail market, trade members said.

Pearl farmer J. Hunter Pearls Fiji is steadily getting back on its feet after enduring serious losses from the devastation caused by Cyclone Tomas that hit the north and east areas of Fiji in March 2010. The hurricane wiped out the company’s pearl farm infrastructure, destroying its 2011 harvest. This marks the first time in eight years that J. Hunter Pearls Fiji has no pearls available for export.
