The final judging of IU Awards, bestowed by UBM Asia Ltd and International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), was held during June Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair. The organiser announced winner of Jewellery Design Competition to the Hong Kong based designer Ip Suen Hang for Dragon Awarkening, a gorgeous necklace setting with seed pearl chains, coloured gemstones and diamonds . Natalia Samorukova from Russian Federation won the champion of the Gem Cutting Competition with the colourless topaz named Chrysanthemum.
To ensure the judging is fair without any bias, the information about designer's names and the country or region of origin were not disclosed to the judges. The panel of judges include Wallace Chan, a well-known jewellery sculptor and director of Wallace Chan International Ltd, Victor Tuzlukov, founder of Russian Faceters Guild, David Schwartz, Vice President of jewellery merchandising at Harry Winston Inc, Fei Liu, winner of the “Design Innovation Awards” and founder of Fei Liu Fine Jewellery and Christie Dang, publisher and editor of Jewellery News Asia- Chinese Edition.

The entries were judged by the sense of aesthetics (35%), the level of craftsmanship, saleability and wearability (15%). Creativity and originality (50%) of the product governs the winning rule.

The award presentation will be taken place on 21st September 2012 during September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair, the world’s biggest jewellery fair. Together with the award winners, all finalists’ materpieces will be showcased at the Grand Foyer of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
