Jewellery for the Olympics

by  Jasmine Webster  posted on 04 Jul 2012
With just less than one month until Britain hosts the 2012 Olympic Games (27 July - 12 August) there is as much training being completed as complementary fashion lines! As imagined, fashion has an athletic twist to it this year and is very much sport inspired!  Basketball mesh infused and lycra-lined fashion lines range from clothing to shoes, to eye-wear and of course - jewellery - as the fashion worlds recognition of the sporting arena.

Now jewellery is currently the reigning champion in terms of it's wearablity without looking like you're gym obsessed or on your way to an Olympic practice session!  With it's subtle but powerfully visual references to the Olympic medals, prizes, ribbons, the coloured rings and gold, silver and bronze - all motifs are fantastically transferable into jewellery.

Jewellery inspired by the Olympics covers a vast amount of recognizable shapes and styles - the one which I find the most inspiring is the 'ball' shape.

The ball - can be more appropriately noted as the 'Globe'.

The universal symbol of the Olympic participants and the united countries that come together in honor of global participation, competition, and talent. With the ball shape being as popular a shape in earrings as it is as a pendant or on a ring - there are many ways in which a fashionable jewellery wearer can incorporate the Olympics into their jewellery tastes and preferences.

Wearing a ball shaped piece of jewellery, whether honey-combed with diamonds or a sleek pearl, both pay homage to the global community that the Olympics creates.

A clear advantage of this style is that it has a sophistication of design to it, which takes it's wearer away from the gimmicky and novel clutter of many jewellery designs available that represent this years Olympics.

By marking this 4 year occasion with ball jewellery - your also marking yourself as a cultivated collector of jewellery and a believer that the Olympics is more than just 5 rings of colour or a gold medal - but the empowerment of a global community.

Now just as each country shines through with their national colours - so can you!

Don't be afraid to incorporate golden sapphire, hot pink topaz or the deep green of emeralds into your fashionable jewellery choice.

Perhaps choose your countries colours to wear with pride.  Or, if you are of a more international decent or orientation, choose a colour that simply represents you and your participation in this years Olympic Games (even if it is only as a game watcher on TV!)

With ball jewellery being a classic design, you should not find it hard to purchase the perfect piece.  Most jewellery designers will have incorporated this motif into their collections and your choices should be as vast as the countries participating on the Olympic grounds in Britain.

Once you decide on the ‘ball’ piece of perfection - do wear it with the pride of your country and our global coming together of nations!
