KP gives green light to Marange diamond exports

20 Jul 2010

The Kimberley Process (KP) Certification Scheme has cleared the export of diamonds mined from Zimbabwe’s Marange region following negotiations in Russia in July.

According to the agreement, Zimbabwe will be allowed two supervised exports of rough from the Marange production by September. During this period, the KP will conduct a review mission to Zimbabwe, which will be held in conjunction with the first visit to the country by the KP Monitor.

The KP Monitor will pay another visit to Zimbabwe on the week of September 6 to certify the second supervised export. The KP Monitoring Committee will review the report issued by the review mission to formulate a position regarding future exports, the World Diamond Council said in a statement.
